Centralized Syndication and Stronger Retailer Scorecards for Bush Brothers & Company

September 13, 2023

USE CASE OVERVIEW

Bush Brothers Needed Specialized Syndication Expertise to Keep Up With Grocery eCommerce

Since 1908, Bush Brothers & Company has been a family-owned American food company built on quality, flavor, and innovation. What began as a small canning operation in Chestnut Hill, Tennessee, has grown into a household staple, with a diverse product lineup ranging from classic baked beans to chili beans, organic varieties, and Zero Sugar Added options that show up in family meals nationwide.

As grocery eCommerce continued to evolve at speed, Bush Brothers found itself with limited internal resources to manage Product Information Management (PIM) and product content syndication. The team understood the competitive need to keep accurate, relevant content live across every digital shelf, but only a few internal team members were trained in the critical functions of syndication management. In a fluid labor market, that concentration of knowledge became a real risk, and over time, it led to syndication bottlenecks, incongruence across systems, and data inconsistencies that began to surface in retailer scorecards and consumer experience.

To stabilize syndication, modernize the underlying data, and free internal teams to focus on higher-value brand work, Bush Brothers partnered with Sitation Managed Services for an end-to-end PIM and content syndication engagement.

Challenges

  • Corporate need for advanced syndication expertise in a vertical with known complexity
  • Limited internal resources to manage PIM and content syndication
  • Syndication bottlenecks producing dated information and a weaker consumer experience
  • Concentration of syndication knowledge in a small number of internal team members
  • Data inconsistencies and incongruence across multiple syndication systems

Goals

  • Update and maintain content across 150 products and more than 100 retailer and trading partner destinations
  • Streamline GDSN and content syndication through a single, governed tool
  • Achieve workflow automation and improved data quality
  • Reduce overhead and eliminate redundancies across syndication workflows
  • Improve retailer scorecards across major channels

Approach

As a Salsify Platinum Partner, Sitation took a comprehensive Managed Services approach to the challenges Bush Brothers was facing. The engagement began with a full audit of the company’s systems, processes, data model, and content readiness, surfacing the underlying issues and laying the foundation for an effective action plan. From there, Sitation expanded scope to cover every syndication platform in Bush Brothers’ ecosystem.

Key elements of the engagement included:

  • Completing a content readiness review to inform a Strategy Roadmap and Program Goals
  • Optimizing Salsify, filling data gaps, and enabling new functionality
  • Expanding scope across all syndication platforms for a comprehensive approach. Including: Salsify PIM, Syndigo, Brandbank, IX-One/Data Council, and 1WorldSync
  • Owning Salsify and GDSN management on behalf of the Bush Brothers team
  • Standing up automation, performance monitoring, and ongoing data completion workflows
